First, you may not need to do anything — contacts you haven't interacted with in a while can be archived, and archived contacts don't count toward your limit. If you're still over 2,500 active contacts after that, you move to the Standard plan at $150/month — the exact same product, no migration, no lost data, nothing changes but the price.
Only active contacts count. Contacts you haven't interacted with for a while can be archived, which takes them out of your plan's contact count while keeping their history intact. Archived records are kept as long as Canada Revenue Agency rules require (receipts and books of account have minimum retention periods), and are then deleted.
